The Trade Centre is where one may put their Pokémon up for trade or gift them to other users. One is able to access it after one has completed the tutorial. It is found in the Nearby Places tab. There are five buttons that one can choose from underneath the title: Set up a Trade, Collection Area, Wonder Trade, Trade History and Upgrades.

Set up a Trade

An example of the Trade Centre

This is for trading/gifting Pokémon to a certain user. The form is very straightforward:

Once one is ready, click the button 'Confirm and send!' to send the trade to the other user. A Notification will be sent upon receiving a trade, a trade being offered on, or a trade being completed. Up to 5 trades can be sent by a user at a time, Pokémon in the Collection Area count towards this maximum.

Receive a Trade

When someone makes an offer on ones trade, a notification will be sent to them. It will link one to the Trade Centre, where one may click on the Pokémon in their "Trades Received" section. One can either accept or reject the trade. If accepted, ones Pokémon will be transferred to the Recipient, and theirs to oneself. A SYSTEM message will let the Recipient know that the trade has been rejected and a notification will appear to let you know that you have received a trade request. You will also get a notification if there are Pokémon, currency or items to collect.

Collection Area

Any Pokemon, items, or currency received from trades can be found in the Collection Area. A trade being cancelled will also cause objects to be deposited here. A user must manually accept items/currency and select fields for Pokemon in order to remove them from the Collection Area.

A user will be unable to send any trades if there are 5 or more Pokemon in the Collection Area. One will also be unable to accept any trades or gifts if there are 11 Pokemon in the Collection Area, which is the maximum.

Wonder Trade

Wonder Trading is an extension of the Trade Centre. Like regular trading, you put up a Pokémon up for trade, but the Pokémon will be traded at random with another user.

Upgrades

Like most Nearby Places, the Trade Centre also has Upgrades you can purchase. Currently, only Trade Center Expansions are available at the Trade Centre. They cost 1,000 GP each, and they will increase the number of trades by five and the collection area by ten.

If you've gone outside in the past three days (and I hope you have), you may have noticed that hordes of people have been roaming the streets in unprecedented numbers. No, they're not zombies. They're just "Pokemon Go" players, enjoying Niantic, Inc.'s new augmented reality game. I, for one, have been a diehard Pokémon fan since the age of six, and have loved the ways the app has brought me back to my glory days — but there's one feature I've been missing. Can you trade in "Pokemon Go"? As of the app's release, you can't trade, but trading Pokemon may be an update coming soon to "Pokemon Go's" set of features.

As anyone who played Pokemon Red, Blue, or Yellow knows, trading Pokemon between Pokemon Trainers is an essential part of gameplay, and some Pokemon only appear in certain versions. I had Red as a kid, which meant that I had to wait to see my cousins (who had Blue) on the holidays so that I could trade my Growlithe for their Vulpix. Hard times, man. Hard times.

Niantic, Inc. CEO John Hanke clearly recognizes the importance of trading as a feature. In a recent interview with Tech Insider, he said, "[Trading] is kind of a core element." I haven't read anything to suggest that different "versions" of "Pokemon Go" exist, meaning that any player should theoretically be able to catch or evolve every Pokemon in the game. However, it's always nifty to be able to trade one of your high-level Pokemon with a friend as a gift, or help out a new "Pokemon Go" pal you might have made while out on a Pokemon-catching jaunt.

Hanke said that there will also be improvements to the game's augmented reality system, which may even include integration with one of the many virtual reality devices that are poised to enter the market. If you think that seeing Pokemon through your phone is a worthwhile experience, just wait — your phone might be redundant sooner rather than later!
